Failure In A Spray Paint Can

I think if you ever tried to understand everything that happens in the world your head would pop off. Something’s are just the way they are because some people are simply bored, lazy and stupid. There’s no sense in attempting to get them…it’s better to just ignore them and if we’re all lucky they’ll fade out.

On the way in to work this morning I passed a white cube van used by the York Region chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a very relevant, worthwhile and much needed charitable organization. Good people dedicated to doing great things. Ask anyone living on the margins who spends seventy percent or more of their annual income on rent simply trying to keep a roof over their heads. Some very irrelevant, bored and sorry person took a can of spray paint and decided that the graphics advertising Habitat for Humanity were missing his or her creative input. The sides of the van were covered in an indecipherable squiggly mess that meant nothing to anyone other than the individual who wasted the paint and time to put it there.

I get that it’s just some paint and it hasn’t rendered the van unusable. I also get that it’s not going to stop Habitat from doing what it does so well. What I don’t get is what the point was of defacing such a vehicle to begin with. What I wonder is what kind of a place this might be if the person who did this instead made a different choice. What if they decided to use this energy towards helping Habitat for Humanity, a similar charitable organization or those people who rely on charities for daily survival? What a wonderful world it would be.

Just thinking…
