The alarm went off at just after 5AM on Friday morning, good Friday to be exact. Actually, to be more accurate, I’d call it Great Friday. Shortly before 7AM I threw my leg over the wee, turned on the iPod and took off. The weather was warm for early April and the traffic was almost non-existent.
Heading north it’s a clear fresh morning and I’ve got nothing but time and a full tank of gas. The shadow of my spinning front wheel seems to flicker rhythmically in time to the music in my helmet. The fragrant spring air is reminiscent of those early fishing mornings with my Dad at the cottage. The powers of the olfactory senses is just that…a power. Instantly rekindling memories from over 30 years ago. Time to think, reflect, smile and remember. It’s a euphoric combination, the sound of the machine, the scents in the air and the visual inputs too. All these things combine and reaffirm the fact that it’s good to be here…alive. The wee is zippy this morning maybe a product of the cooler air, my own efforts or more. Sometimes when you ride it all just clicks. Balance, harmony and simplicity all blending together to enhance the beauty of the morning. The machine feels very right.
500kms later and countless towns along the way the wee is back in the garage yet seemingly ready to go again. I don’t like it when a ride ends. I suppose the good part is there’s another adventure around the corner.
