Had a great ride on Saturday. Up early, egg n bacon and most of the road to myself. Just past Cobourg I picked up Highway 2 and followed that along to Picton to spend the day with a friend and his family. This was a route my Mom favored. Spending several years in Cobourg there were many trips down this road for no other reason than to simply go. Smooth tarmac, great sites, beautiful old towns and a chance to run through the personal inventory. Here I am freely riding my motorcycle across an incredible place free to stop anywhere I like. The views are often breath taking and I was filled with a sense of blessings and luck. For as much as my workday leaves me empty, these days fill me up…if I let them. That’s really the key isn’t it? Allow yourself to see the true luxury and those things that really matter. I have a home, I have family, I have friends and a full stomach from breakfast just twenty minutes ago. I thought… “take away one of those things and you are still doing pretty good aren’t you?” It’s certain…I am. While so many wonder where they might sleep tonight or where they’ll find a bit to eat I’m abundantly surrounded by blessings, luxuries and simple good. The air this morning is fragrant and exhilarating simultaneously. As I ride along I reach back and pat the empty passenger seat inviting my Mom on. Her spirit rides with me often. It’s part of her that allows me to see this gift in this way rather than cutting through the gift to find a fault that isn’t there.
This was great day wrapped up in prime golden light, a remarkable sunset and as bit of Scotch as soon as the Wee was back in her spot. The coolness reminds me of the approaching winter. For as long as we can we’ll search out more of the goodness all around us. It’s surprisingly easy to find and I hope it finds you.
