Hold On Tight Kids!!

With almost 800 kilometers behind me my little two-day road trip is done. With no plans or specific destination I left for points north. Doing my best to avoid major roads I found my way to many small towns throughout Ontario. In each one there was a very clear theme. It’s summer time and the kids are off. With every stop I made there were always kids riding bikes, swimming in lakes and rivers or enjoying ice cream in front of the general store. It occurred to me that I really only had today and they have all summer. When I think back to those days when I had all summer it seemed like an eternity. All of July AND AUGUST! Two whole months.

As I pulled on my gear and rolled away to my next stop I had one thought. Hold on kids, hold on tight. It’s a magical time. Long summer days with nothing to do but watch the day go by pass faster than it appears. I have faint memories of those times. Seems like yesterday and a lifetime ago all at once. I had an ice cream cone on one of these stops in an effort to reclaim a bit of summers past. I’m not a big sweets person and ice cream isn’t my thing. I think the combination of sun, water, a breeze, ice cream and those kids worked to take me back. It was great. Try this; Go to the General Store and get frozen treat of some sort. Next, find a shady tree near a lake or river. Once you’ve got those two things sit back and let lazy summers past drop by for a quick visit. It’s good for you and fat free.
