The Best Bike Lesson So Far

As I’ve said before, I like to learn something new each time I ride. I didn’t ride yesterday and yet I did learn something. After many hours of wondering what my Dad was thinking about the new motorcycle an email reply finally showed up. I won’t go into all the details but I will say this. He’s not crazy about the bike at all but he’s understanding and even somewhat supportive albeit cautiously. The best part and the lesson that day was this. He writes…

“Did you ever know that Grandpa had a bike once. I never saw it but I remember hearing him speak of it lovingly. Must run in the family”.

This revelation completely caught me off guard. Part of me thought about how this bike in some very small way brought me closer to understand a small piece of my past. I was happy and sad all at once for the simple fact that now I knew this but at the same time didn’t have the luxury of sitting down with my grandfather to discuss his experiences.

The Wee is on day two of garage rest as the weather is less than ideal. I covered the bike up last night and talked to the Wee a little about EJ….my grandfather and what little I really know of the man. He raised a man like my Dad so he must have been pretty good.

I think the best part is that my bike taught me something yesterday and I didn’t even need the key. I must admit, I’d kind of like to go for a ride with EJ.

(The photo here isn't my Grandfather but it is how I'd envision him)
